jojo young - college coach

Jojo currently plays D3 hockey at Sewanee serving as captain for her junior and senior seasons. She also played four years at the Potomac School, two of which Chrissy coached her! She has been working with Beyond Sticks and Southeast Storm since 2013 as an assistant coach. She has worked with all grade levels and wants to continue working with the field hockey community as much as possible. “I love seeing the change in a specific player or group dynamic improve. Beyond Sticks made such a huge impact on my life choices and know that sports can help girls the way it helped me.” Jojo wholeheartedly believes in Play Beyond the Game's philosophy and outlook on sports. “Many of my strongest qualities I have learned on the field with the support of my coaches and teammates. I know that sports can be the best way for young people to realize these attributes and want to help these girls the way my coaches have aided me.” Something that sports have taught Jojo is confidence. “Women are so frequently overlooked and afraid to rise up in their moment. But sports taught me that if I have the best shot, it's best for me and all of my teammates to take that shot; it's not selfish. The relationship I have learned to build between myself and my teammates fully encompasses compromise, leadership and success.”
