School Year Play:

Development Academy & Make the Team

As our athletes grow and develop-so do we. We now have two levels of play during the year-Development and Make the Team.

Development is a non-competitive, first-come first-serve program focused on growing the game and players joy for the sport. Groups are placed in loose teams each season, but the intention is not competition, rather to increase players' joy in the game and give athletes the opportunity to grow their skills.

Development is perfect for all ages and all skill levels! Why? Because the focus is on giving new players a strong foundation of play taught by certified trained coaches. For more experiences athletes, we continue to build upon individual skills to give you more time for individual training and feedback to continue to get better. We have groups for beginners, Varsity and everyone in between.

WHO PLAYS DEVELOPMENT? Our core development player runs from new to JV. Is this program good for true beginners? ABSOLUTELY! We always have a group that is very new to the game.  We have loaner sticks and sticks for you to buy at a much lower price than local sports stores.  You just need to bring a mouthguard, shinguards and a good attitude and we take care of the rest!

Make the Team

Make the team is more tactical and hockey IQ based.  Every sessions includes at least an hour of instruction and at least 30 minutes of game time. Tryouts are not required but we ask for a coach reference to confirm commitment, coachability and ability.

Once we establish a baseline and form in the first practice-groups work together in positions and engage in team concepts-like the press, outletting, or off-ball movement. This includes a lot of small games and scrimmages.

This program is for girls looking to learn the sport or to improve their field hockey skills without the commitment of weekly traveling to tournaments. Players will receive the coaching from our staff who often coaches club, but do not travel to competitions except at the end of season.

As development is non-competitive, our development players can "graduate" to Make the Team as they gain skill and are able to commit to a higher, more intense level of play. At the same time, our goal is to get players on their high school teams or join a club. We encourage those new to non-school based sports to try at least a season of development before attempting to play Make the Team, as it will give these players a strong foothold into our culture and style of play. We also encourage those who simply do not have the time or want a lower level of commitment to play development with us during any season.

For both programs, we strive to teach a strong technical and tactical base of the game. We only employ USA Field Hockey certified and background checked coaches. We work to give all athletes the joy, confidence and camaraderie that comes from playing field hockey and team sports.
