Heidi Lewis - Summer college coach

Heidi grew up in Northern CA and played for Davis High School and Endangered Species club (which is now extinct). She was a four-year starter at American University, winning four Patriot League Championships, making four trips to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and two to the Elite Eight. She was a four year NFHCA All Academic Team Member, Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic All American, and Patriot League nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year. She still plays competitively year-round with DC Dragons club. Heidi started coaching in 2007 when a club team formed at American. From there she caught the bug and coached across collegiate club, youth club, high school, USAFH developmental and high performance levels. She finally committed to coaching as a full time profession in 2013 and she has been the head coach at Catholic University since 2016. Recently she has started the process to become a certified coach educator with USA Field Hockey and she is really excited about this new opportunity. “I coach so my players know they are loved, and so they realize their full potential.” Heidi believes Play Beyond the Game means that it's more than just who wins and loses. It's about growing the whole person through sports. Sports can be used as an arena to practice key life skills, problem solve, and learn more about ourselves. “Sport has taught me to embrace failure, and to trust myself. We can't be afraid to fail because failure is how we learn, grow, and ultimately reach success. Part of that process is being able to trust yourself and have faith that you are enough - strong enough, smart enough, resilient enough - to achieve your goals.”
